Background
Albert SC Chou is a Tax Partner of our US tax consulting group in Shanghai, PwC China. Albert has more than 25 years of experience practising US tax and international tax. Albert spent 15 years practising in the US as an international tax professional serving primarily high tech companies based in Silicon Valley before relocating to Asia in 2008. Since Albert relocated to Asia, he has been focusing on serving Asia-based multinationals with investments/operations in the US and US-based multinationals with investments/operations in Asia. Albert also advises US companies who intend to list their stocks in Asia as well as Asia-based companies which are seeking a listing in the US.
Relevant experience
Albert’s relevant work experience consists of Asia outbound investment structuring and M&A deal advisory in connection with structuring Asia-based multinationals’ outbound debt/equity investments into the US with a view to minimise US taxes on cash repatriation. Perform tax due diligence on US acquisition targets and deal structuring consulting services as well as post deal integration consulting services.
Albert serves asset managers such as private equity and hedge fund managers based in Asia with a special focus on assisting with carried interest and management fee related planning. Albert has also helped many pre-IPO companies restructure into IPO-ready holding structures, advising on tax issues related to restructuring such as whether or not restructuring can qualify for tax-free treatment taking into account tax-free re-organizaion, anti-inversion, outbound transfer rules, etc. Albert also advises high net worth individuals who are owners of businesses in Asia across a variety of industries on income tax and gift/estate tax planning consideration.
Qualifications
Albert is fluent in English, Taiwanese and Mandarin. Albert received his LL.M. in Tax from New York University School of Law and J.D. with tax honours from Rutgers University School of Law - Camden. Albert also received a LL.M. from University of Pennsylvania School of Law and a LL.B. from National Taiwan University.
